Ladies and Gentlemen:
We are pleased to present the Texas Judicial Council's 1998-1999 Report of Activities and Recommendations. This report fulfills the statutory requirements of Section 71.034, Government Code.
Most of the Council's activities this past year involved providing information and assistance to the 76th Legislature about the Council's recommendations and other issues impacting the Texas Judicial System. Each Council recommendation was developed in a public forum with input from the Judiciary, the bar, and the general public.
The next year will be equally challenging for the Council. The 76th Legislature has asked the Council to study courtroom media coverage and to recommend performance measures for district and appellate courts in Texas. We look forward to working with each of the three branches of government on these projects and hope that our work yields positive results for the state of Texas.
