The diagram is an organized list of all the data fields in the data dictionary. It also includes most of the values that are typically selectable from a drop down menu, sometimes also described as a list of values.
Each field includes a generic name also referred to as a label, a basic record type (case, child, parent, etc.), whether history tracking is recommended or not, and a basic data type for the field; date, text, value, or flag.
The upper portion of the diagram is grouped by basic case record organization while the bottom is organized more toward a chronological process flow for managing a case.
It is important to note that although a process might be implied from the diagram, case processing has nearly an unlimited set of choices at the court’s discretion. Certainly the law governing the court provides overall guidance, but individual cases are managed by individual circumstances.
The choice of fields included in a design is determined by the requirements of the individual court.
Some fields are necessary to have an efficient automation system, others should be included by common sense, others are required for reporting, while others should be included to help in adhering to the law.
