Domestic Violence Resources Program

Office of Court Administration

OCA's Domestic Violence Resources (DVR) Program offers the following resources:

Domestic Violence Resource Attorney (DVRA)
The DVRA provides technical assistance to courts regarding domestic violence issues, edits the Texas Family Violence Benchbook, and supervises the Remote Interpreter Project.
Texas Family Violence Benchbook (Benchbook)
The Benchbook is a compilation of state and federal statutes, case law, and other resources related to domestic violence issues.
Texas Remote Interpreter Project (TRIP)
The Texas Remote Interpreter Project (TRIP) provides licensed court interpreter services (for Spanish interpretation) and vendor services (for non-Spanish interpretation), at no cost to district and county-level courts, for use in cases involving intimate partner violence. Counties of any size may use TRIP for civil cases, and counties with a population of less than 50,000 may also use it for criminal cases when Spanish interpretation services are required.

Domestic Violence In Texas

In 2009, 111 women were killed by their intimate partner. Additionally, in the 2009 Crime in Texas report, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported:

  • 196,713 incidents of domestic violence
  • 212,106 victims of domestic violence;
  • 207,315 domestic violence offenders arrested; and
  • an 11 percent increase in domestic violence cases from 1999 to 2009.

While these numbers may seem staggering, it is important to note that many studies indicate that less than 50 percent of all family violence incidents are actually reported to the police. (Intimate Partner Violence, Bureau of Justice Statistics, May 2000).
