Important Notices

  • The Guardianship Certification Board is seeking public comment on proposed changes to the Rules Governing Guardianship Certification. Please follow the link for a summary of the proposed amendments, text of the proposed amendments, and instructions on how to submit comments.
  • Increased Fee for Updated Criminal History Reports, as of January 1, 2012. Since March 2011, it has not been necessary for re-certifying guardians, and some applicants for certification, to have new fingerprints taken to obtain the required updated criminal history reports. The fee, established and assessed by the Department of Public Safety, is increasing from $19.25 to $34.25 on January 1, 2012. Application forms, instruction sheets and applicant checklists have been updated to reflect this change. Please visit the Certification & Examination page for more information.

PLEASE NOTE: Applications that are received by Board staff on or after January 2, 2012 (the first business day of calendar year 2012) must be accompanied by the increased fee.
  • New FAST Pass Form, effective September 2, 2011. Please visit the Certification & Examination page for the new form and updated instructions for applicants for certification and provisional certification.
  • County Clerks Not Required to Obtain Separate Criminal History Record Information for Certified Guardians
Effective 6/19/09 Amendments set forth in Senate Bill 1057 eliminate the need for the county clerk to obtain a separate criminal history report for those individuals described in Government Code 411.1386(a) and Probate Code 698(a), if the individual described is certified or provisionally certified by the GCB. The court may request a copy of the criminal history record information obtained by the GCB when issuing or renewing the individual's certification. Courts should use the form provided to request a copy of criminal history record information from the GCB.
